Culinary Arts

The Culinary Arts or the practice of creative cooking where one who engages in culinary arts or is a culinarian is either called a cook or a chef depending on their level of expertise.

Through outreach to CPS High Schools with Culinary programs we recruit potential Juniors and/or Seniors with current or formal culinary education, training or experience who envision themselves eventually becoming a Chef. From that recruitment, a local Culinary Competition is put on every spring with the gold medal winner moving on to a National Competition.

The South Side Branch has medaled several times at the National Act-SO Competition and our culinary winners have been awarded scholarships ranging from $18,000 to $75,000 to the renowned Culinary Institute of America.
